Retirement is a time to enjoy life, which means finding a place to do so and a community that enables you to do the things that you love. There are many options for people who are retiring, but finding the right place isn’t always easy, here are 3 points to consider when looking at retirement options:

1) Consider your Lifestyle

• Think about your needs and your lifestyle. Is it important for you to be in a place where you have friends and family already or do you want to discover a new community that can expand your circle of relationships?

• What location is suitable to your lifestyle? There are so many different geographical places you can retire; selecting the right climate plays an important role in supporting the lifestyle that you want to live. Whether it’s in the Great Smoky Mountains, the Lakes of the Midwest or on the Ocean, deciding where you want to retire is critical in enjoying your retirement.

• What kind of activities do you enjoy? Do you like to go skiing, play golf, go hiking, or play on the water? Enjoying retirement is all about being able to participate in your favorite activities and finding the best spot to do those is important.

2) Compare locations and communities

• Once you have found the places that are most ideal for you lifestyle, compare the differences between the locations and communities that are on your list. Major items to consider when comparing places are :

• Cost of living and government taxes
• Proximity to local healthcare facilities
• Proximity to entertainment and dining
• Social activities in the area that allow you to meet new people

3) Confirm with a visit and decide

• Once you’ve considered your priorities and narrowed down your options the last step is to actually experience your new location.

• If you have never visited the area before, go take a visit and experience the local lifestyle in that place for the weekend. You will ensure that it is an area with the activities, amenities, and people in the community that will allow you to enjoy retired life to its fullest.
